Music We Love: Khruangbin
Difficult to say but, oh so easy to listen to. Khruangbin, which translates to “flying engine” or airplane in Thai, is the genre-defying trio of Laura Lee (Bass), Mark Speer (Guitar) and Donald "DJ" Johnson (Drums). Hailing from Houston Texas, Khruangbin goes worldwide with their musical influences and style. Not being held down to one sound, the mostly instrumental threesome brings together elements of RnB, Soul, Funk, Psychedelia, Electronic, Thai, Spanish, and Middle Eastern music.
Khruangbin’s 3rd and most recent studio album, Mordechai takes their influences to a whole nother level! Bouncing all over the world, from Mexico to Germany, from West Africa to Vietnam, Khruangbin takes you on a wild ride; an incredible journey of sound!
Having first discovered this amazing band through Pitchfork Live it’s been an absolute pleasure exploring their discography and sharing this out-of-this-world music! This is definitely Khruangbin at their finest!
As we’ve discussed before greatness works with greatness. Khruangbin teamed up with the incredible Leon Bridges and released the EP, Texas Sun, in February 2020. Make sure to listen, you will not be disappointed.
